A Christmas Bird Count was done January 4th / 19 , in Chatsworth S. D. East of Saltcoats SK .

Was a nice day -8 to + 2 for temperature. Partly cloudy and light winds. Snow depth from 2 cm to 16 cm. Total km traveled 98 km by auto & 2km on foot by people in 19 hrs.

Taking part were: HERB & JEAN CROSS, CHARLES & DONNA DYCK , ROBERT & WIONNA MESS, GEORGE & LAURIE MURRAY, KERRI & STEWART ROOKE and TORY & CAROL TANGEDAL  .

15 Species were seen a total of 332 – Birds  , a lot lower than most years .
144 – House Sparrows
27 – Redpolls
16 – Snow Buntings
8 – White Breasted Nuthatches
43 – Chickadees
30 – Ravens
14 – Magpies
5 – Blue Jays
7 – Hairy Woodpeckers
9 – Downy Woodpeckers
2 – Great Horned Owls
22 – Pigeons
1 – Bald Eagle
3 -  Ruffed Grouse

Mammals seen : 4 - Red Squirrels ,  1 – Grey Squirrel , 3 – Coyotes ,  3 – Moose tracks  and 1 – Flying Squirrel seen December 20th / 18 .

Numbers seem to be less the last few years .  WHY ?  Maybe just the day of the count ?
